Eleven Covid-19 Cases, One Death Linked To Birthday Parties In Tobago

By Newsroom

After recording three weeks of no new or active Covid-19 cases in Tobago back in November, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has expressed concern about a “disturbing and significant surge” of cases on the island in December, which he says “took place with the help of people from Trinidad.”

“On the November 22, there was a birthday party in Tobago where people from Trinidad went across. That birthday party gave us five positive cases, and one of the Trinidadians who then came back to Tobago, subsequently passed. On November 28, there was another birthday party in Tobago which again spawned five cases. On December 8, there was another birthday party in Tobago. So far, that has given us one one positive case… So in three birthday parties in Tobago, we now have 11 cases with one death directly attributable to that birthday party,” Deyalsingh revealed while speaking during Sarurday’s media conference.

Currently, Tobago has 26 active cases as two patients were discharged on Friday.

The Health Minister urged citizens to be responsible during the Christmas season.
