Energy Minister Franklin Khan Has Died

Energy Minister Franklin Khan passed away on Saturday morning. 

Khan, who spent the last 20 years involved in politics,  spent the last few years battling a heart disease. 

In an initial statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley extended his condolences to Khan’s family.

“The Prime Minister is extremely saddened by the passing of his colleague and friend who will be remembered as a man who dedicated his life to public service.”

“Dr Rowley mourns the loss of a patriot and son of the soil,” the release from OPM stated.

Khan, who was a geologist by profession, was first elected as a Member of Parliament for Ortoire/Mayaro in 2002. 

He was appointed a Senator following the September 2015 elections, serving a short stint as Minister of Rural Development and Local Government before being reappointed to serve as the Ministry of Energy. 

Under the Patrick Manning government, Khan served as Minister of Works and Transport from 2002-2005.
