Ex-Inmate Detained For Allegedly Throwing Contraband Package Over Wall At PoS Prison

An ex-inmate has been detained after allegedly being caught trying to throw a package over a wall of the Port of Spain Prison this morning.

The suspect was spotted at around 7am by Prison officers of the Emergency Response Unit, who were at the time conducting a surveillance exercise. 

A statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service said the package was confiscated and found to be containing 141 grams of plant-like material,  ten packets of cigarettes and one smartphone.

The suspect has since been escorted to the Central Police Station where he is assisting police with enquiries.

Commissioner of Prisons, Mr. Dennis Pulchan applauded the quick action of the Officers of the Emergency Response Unit, Port of Spain Prison, and is reminding all that it is an offence punishable by law under Act 25 of 2019, Miscellaneous Provisions (Law Enforcement Officers) to traffic items into the nation’s prisons or attempt to.
