Faris Says Sorry After PM Expresses Disappointment In IG Show Appearance

By Newsroom

“Even though no law was broken I should have acted better and unreservedly apologize.”

Attorney General Faris Al Rawi has issued an apology in the face of backlash over his decision to appear as a guest on the Instagram Live show ‘Vibes With Voicey’, notably without wearing a mask.

His apology comes one the heels of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley’s public expression of disappointment over the decision.

When asked about the matter during Saturday’s Covid-19 press briefing, PM Rowley said no one would get a free pass in the fight against the virus.

“That’s disappointing…I expect every person in a leadership position in this country to demonstrate that leadership wherever you are, whenever you are out. I’m not giving any passes to anybody,” the PM said.

Issuing a statement on Sunday, AG Al Rawi said he was “very far from any perfection and have made numerous mistakes” while emphasizing that only six people were involved in the charity event.

“Even though participants took temperatures and sanitized, upon reflection it would certainly have been more prudent to wear masks in certain of the settings. It would’ve helped encourage the audience tuned in to keep the fight against Covid-19 alive whilst having a laugh viewing people like me shed the suit and tie and serious talk for a bit of humour,” he said.

Al Rawi said he accepts the Prime Minister’s reflections, especially his expressed view that each of us have a part to play in fighting Covid-19.

“Quite simply and in all circumstances, I am renewed in giving my personal redoubled commitment to do better by being seen to adopt best practices,” he said.
