Finance Minister Begins Legal Action Against TV6 Over “Fabricated” Story Against Him

By Newsroom

Minister of Finance Colm Imbert has revealed that he is already in the process of taking action against CCN TV6 over a story published in its news report on Friday in which it claimed millions of dollars had been found at his home.

Imbert responded to the story via a post to his Twitter on Saturday.

“Last night TV6 ran a fabricated story about a non-existent police investigation into millions of dollars they falsely claim was discovered at my home. They have also falsely implicated the CoP in their fake narrative. Legal action is already in process against the media house,” he said.

His statement was followed up by Police Commissioner publicly denouncing the investigation alluded to in the news report.

“Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith wishes to clarify information contained in a recent TV6 news report stating that at no time has he alluded to investigating any matter involving Finance Minister, the Honourable Colm Imbert,” a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service stated.

It added:The report in question erroneously states that the CoP says an investigation into large quantities of local and foreign currency found at the home of Mr. Imbert eight years ago, was nearing an end. Commissioner Griffith wishes to state that his comments in a recent media interview about $150,000, were in relation to a financial transaction involving Planning and Development Minister, the Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis, which is being investigated by police.”

The media house has not yet responded to news of the legal action.
