The Central Executive of the People’s National Movement has unanimously approved  all 40 candidates picked to contest seats in the General Election to be held on August 10th.

In a statement on Monday evening, the party said screening for the Constituency of D’Abadie/O’Meara will take place tomorrow, Tuesday and the announcement of a candidate will be done immediately
after completion of the screening activity.

The screening comes after the party’s initial pick- Brigadier Ancil Antoine- was withdrawn on Sunday for controversial comments he made about the United States during his campaign launch on Saturday night.

Antoine contrasted Trinidad and Tobago’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic to America, saying  “It is a great contrast to (US) President (Donald) Trump who has gone against his scientists and his experts and now America is a sh*thole country. Sorry to say that.” He has since apologized.
