#GE2020: Progressive Party To Contest Lone Seat In August 10th General Election

By Newsroom

Political Leader of the Progressives Party, Nikoli Edwards, will be the sole candidate vying for a seat in the August 10th general election.

The party made the announcement on Thursday- the eve of Nomination Day in Trinidad and Tobago.

“The Board of Directors and the Elections Committee of the Progressives have accepted a harsh reality that we cannot offer 41 candidates to the electorate for consideration. We are proud of our tremendous progress over the last thirteen (13) months and recognise that all is not lost. We shall offer one candidate in the San Fernando West election – our Political Leader Mr. Nikoli Edwards who we believe stands the best chance of securing the seat for the party,”  it said in a press release.

Edwards will face the incumbent MP, Faris Al Rawi (PNM), and Sean Sobers (UNC)

It is his hope that, if elected, he can begin to change the two party system of politics that has thrived for years. “A victory for the Progressives in San Fernando West shall send a clear message that the people are tired of the games of the PNM and UNC and want better for their community and country. We believe that one seat can make a huge difference, a paradigm shift away from that which we have tried and has not worked,” Edwards said.
