Gopeesingh Calls For Covid-19 Investigation Committee To Make Report Public

By Newsroom

Former UNC Minister Dr. Tim Gopeesingh is calling for the report compiled by the Covid-19 review committee to be made public once it is completed.

The committee, appointed by the Prime Minister, requested and received a three-week extension to produce a study evaluating the operations of the country’s COVID-19 facilities.

The team, lead by the University of the West Indies’ Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Professor Terence Seemungal, was initially given a one-week deadline to submit its report.

“In the next 28 days it would take the Committee to produce their report, therefore, about 400 more Covid-19 patients are at risk of dying needlessly. This is a travesty of democracy and a contravention of citizens’ Constitutional rights to safety and proper health care! It is criminal, intolerable and unacceptable!” Dr. Gopeesingh said.

“Rowley had promised to lay bare the Committee’s report after seven days but ten days have now passed since the Committee began their probe and still, none is forthcoming,” he added.

The former UNC Minister is hoping the Committee will be able to shed light on factors leading to T&T’s high mortality rate for Covid-19 patients, especially those in the ICU.

He also wants an explanation for the long wait time for PCR tests done in the public health system.
