Government Assures No Phase Out Plans For Super Gasoline

By Newsroom

While government will move ahead in its plans to liberalize the fuel market, it assures that removing super gasoline is not in the cards.

The clarification comes after an article was published in the Sunday Guardian, which revealed government had received a recommendation to consider phasing out the use of super gasoline.

In a statement on Monday, Energy Minister Franklin Khan said motorists need not worry about this proposed change.

“The current decision of the Government is that it has no intention to phase out Super Gasoline with preference to Premium Gasoline on the local liquid fuels market.”

Once the liberalization comes into effect, the price of fuel will fluctuate in keeping with the ever rising and falling of oil and gas prices, meaning motorists will not enjoy the current system of there being one set price when they visit the pump.

The measure was first announced by Finance Minister Colm Imbert during his 2020/2021 Budget Presentation in the House of Representatives.
