The Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses programme, GATE, is under review.

This was revealed by Finance Minister, Colm Imbert, during Thursday’s Standing Finance Committee at Parliament.

The Minister made the revelation as Barataria/San Juan MP Saddam Hosein questioned whether there would be cuts to the program, given there has been a reduction in allocation by $35million.

“Is there any plan to reduce the number of programmes?” Hosein asked, to which the Finance Minister replied “GATE is under review.”

He said there has been no special committe set up for the review, explaining that the Cabinet would be advised on the matter by the Ministry of Education.

Providing no other details, Imbert committed only to saying the report would be made available “soon”.
