Government Seeks To Extend SOE By Another Three Months

By Newsroom

When Parliament resumes next Wednesday, government will go to the House of Representatives seeking to extend the State of Emergency by another three months.

This was confirmed in an Order Paper published by the Parliament on Thursday afternoon.

The SOE, which was first called on May 15th, was extended for an initial three months on May 24th, in a Parliament vote that required simple majority, meaning Opposition support was not necessary for it to be approved.

If passed, this would see the current 9pm curfew possibly extending until the end of November.

Below is a section of the Parliament’s order paper for next Wednesday.
