Government To Consider Further Extension For Registered Venezuelan Migrants

By Newsroom

National Security Minister Stuart Young has revealed that it’s quite possible government will extend its Migrant registration into 2021, however he cautions that it’s too early to say anything definitively.

Addressing the matter during Tuesday’s Standing Finance Committee of the Parliament, Minister Young said the matter will have to go before the Cabinet.

“Cabinet will take a decision as to what happens beyond December 31, 2020. I can say that what I suspect we’ll do is we will roll it, how long, I can’t say that at this stage,” he said.

In January of this year, government announced plans to provide an automatic six-month extension for the roughly 16,000 Venezuelan migrants who were granted a one year permit to live and work in Trinidad and Tobago in June of 2019.
