Government To Decide On Further Reopening By This Weekend, Says PM

By Newsroom

By Saturday (May 30th), the country should know whether it is in a position to advance to another Phase of reopening.

This is according to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, who told Thursday’s post cabinet media briefing that he is due to meet with medical advisers on Friday.

With the country having recorded no positive cases of COVID-19 since April 26th and more specifically nearing the end of another 14 day cycle when the virus typically shows symptoms, Dr. Rowley reiterated that this reality should not be taken as an indication that the threat of the virus has passed.

Describing the current stage a “dangerous Twilight zone”, he said looking at the realities of other countries such as the United States and Brazil should serve as a reminder of the importance of practicing extreme caution.

Under Phase Three, which was originally predicted to be June 7th- 20th, all public servants will come back out to work with elements of flexitime where possible. In addition, maxis and taxis will be allowed to ply their trade at 75% capacity.
