Gov’t Worker Faces Fraud Charge After Allegedly Booking N.Y. Family Trip Through Official Channels

By Newsroom

Davica Roop-Boodoo, an accountant at the Ministry of Youth Development, was slapped with 6 fraud charges for allegedly making unauthorized requests for official travel to New York, which was intended for personal use.

The woman, who has worked in the public sector for 18 years, is accused of racking up a travel bill of $94,000, which covered airfare for several people, including accommodation at the Hilton Hotel and Marriot Hotel.

She booked the trip with a travel agency which is utilised by the Ministry. The requests were found to be fraudulent after a direct inquiry was made by the travel agency to the Ministry following several failed attempts to receive payments.

Roop-Boodoo was charged with six counts of misbehaviour in public office on Wednesday.

She was granted $200,000 bail with a surety when she appeared before a Justice of the Peace.
