Venezuelan Immigrants Return To T&T After Being Repatriated

A group of 27 Venezuelan immigrants including 16 children who were detained in Los Iros last Wednesday and repatriated to their home country have returned to Trinidad.

The group were detained by police on Tuesday, two days after they were initially repatriated. 

Between 1.30 pm and 2.15 pm, police received information that a number of Venezuelans were seen coming off a boat at Los Iros Beach.

Officers of the South Western Division Task Force and the Santa Flora Police Station responded and met 11 adults and 16 children between the ages of 4 months to 17 years at the scene.

The 27 illegal immigrants were detained and were taken to the Siparia Health Facility to be medically examined.

Investigations revealed that the 27 detainees were part of a group of 29 Venezuelans who were repatriated to Venezuela on Sunday.

The Venezuelan immigrants informed police that  there was a court order for them to return to Trinidad.

Police are currently conducting interviews.
