Guyana’s Opposition Communications Chief Loses Covid-19 Battle

By Newsroom

Imran Khan, the Head of Communications for the Opposition in Guyana has succumbed to Covid-19, less than two weeks after contracting the virus on September 15th.

Mr. Khan passed away early on Tuesday morning after spending more than a week at the Intensive Care Unit of the COVID-19 Hospital at Lilliendaal

Just two days prior to his passing, Khan posted to his social media account, thanking his supporters for their prayers.

“Thank you for all your love, prayers, messages of encouragement and support. I am overwhelmed beyond explanation and I am in excellent spirits…Please be assured that I am fighting and there is no giving up. One Love”, he wrote.

Khan, a former Director of Guyana’s Department of Public Information, was unvaccinated but said he had been taking the necessary precautions by only being part of virtual meetings.

He however was obligated to attend an in-person meeting, where he likely contracted the virus after interacting with a positive person.

Khan’s wife, Attorney Tamara Khan is also a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital. She was recovering at home but had to be rushed to the hospital last week after encountering breathing problems.
