For the second day in a row, the Ministry of Health has had to issue an official statement, counteracting doctored reports- this time dismissing a claim that herbalist Trevor Sayers would be appointed as the country’s new Chief Medical Officer, replacing Dr. Roshan Parasram.
Just Wednesday, the Ministry was forced to correct misinformation circulating online- which claimed that restrictions would be lifted from places including bars, restaurants, churches and beaches.
The prevalence of doctored “government” issued press releases- complete with unofficial and malicious use of the Coat of Arms, which is illegal- has increased since the pandemic began in 2020, forcing authorities to tackle another virus- fake news.
The Health Ministry encourages the public to continue to seek out news from official sources only- via their official platforms.
