Health Officials Investigating Second Case Of Vaccine Complication

By Newsroom

Health officials are investigating a second possible case of vaccine induced thrombocytopenia, a condition which affects four in one million people.

This is according to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Roshan Parasram, who says the extremely rare case of developing severe symptoms days after taking the vaccine is not fatal.

Symptoms of  vaccine induced thrombocytopenia include intense headache, abdominal pain, back pain, nausea and vomiting, vision changes, change in mental status, shortness of breath, leg pain and swelling, and/or bleeding/petechiae.

The patient from the first case, which was reported on May 29th is said to be doing well and the CMO notes that the vast majority of people who have taken the vaccine to date have reported only mild symptoms.

“I know of a few cases that had to go to hospital- they have been treated and they are well and they are discharged. So there have been, to date, no vaccine related deaths of any sort,” CMO Parasram said.

“Majority of people have recovered completely within about 2-3 days and go back to their normal way of life right after,” he added.
