By Newsroom

All security in and around the nation’s prisons have been heightened, following the discovery of high powered guns and explosives outside the Golden Grove Prison on Wednesday night.

This is according to National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds, who says both the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service and the TTPS are conducting separate investigations into the matter.

Minister Hinds addressed the matter while responding to an Urgent Question in the House of Representatives on Friday.

“This is a seriously criminal and troubling matter,” Hinds said of the discovery.

The items seized by SORT officers included one nine-millimetre pistol loaded with a magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition, one AR rifle loaded with a magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition, one revolver and five rounds of ammunition, a quantity of C4 explosives, one length of detonator cord, four detonators and two walkie-talkies.
