Here Are The Emergency Powers Regulations for the State of Emergency

By Newsroom

While no one in authority has officially said there is a gun amnesty, the 2024 Emergency Powers Regulations that will govern the State of Emergency states that anyone who surrenders a firearm will not be prosecuted under the Firearms Act.

The regulation actually states: “No person who surrenders any firearm, ammunition or explosive during any period that is prescribed, and otherwise in accordance with an Order to surrender, shall be prosecuted under the Firearms Act or regulation for illegally purchasing, acquiring or possessing such firearm, ammunition or explosive prior to the time of such surrender or at that time.”

The regulations also outline the powers of arrest and detention given to the Defence Force, as well.
