Government has spent, up to Monday the total of TT$934 million on COVID relief in Trinidad and Tobago. But the bigger picture as painted by Finance Minister Colm Imbert on Tuesday morning is that TT$6 billion will be spent which includes a loan to keep Caribbean Airlines afloat. This is the breakdown as explained by Minister Imbert at a virtual press conference on Tuesday morning.
Ministry of Social Development and Family Services: TT$98.1 million for Food Cards, cash support cards for needy persons generally, Food Cards for persons whose children would have been in the School Feeding Program, additional support for persons already in receipt of various forms of welfare such as public assistance and disability grant, food support for retrenched workers, for people who have applied for senior citizens pension, disability and have not yet received it, income support for retrenched persons. Projected to spend TT$400 million until the end of September 2020.
Office of the Prime Minister: TT$10 million to churches- food for the poor and needy.Projected to be TT$30 million by end of September
Ministry of Agriculture: TT$1.3 million in fresh produce and expects a total of TT$10.7 million to be spent.
Ministry of Nation Security: additional expenditure TT$3.7 million and up to TT$8.3 million
Ministry of Health so far spent TT$55 million. There’s an additional provision of TT$250 million but they are expected to spend TT$137 million
Ministry of Finance: TT$12 million in Salary Relief Grant projected to be T$490 million
Credit Unions; TT$ 100 million for their members which may be increased and is geared toward small business lending
Vat Refunds already paid TT$700 million in cash
Bonds of TT$3 billion should start this week.
Face Masks through NIPDEC: TT$5 million
Caribbean Airlines: a US$65 million loan
Tobago Regional Health Authority: TT$50 million
Tobago House of Assembly: TT$ 5 million and an additional TT$50 million for hotels.
TT$300 million support for SME sector in the final stages of preparation.
Ministry of Rural Development and Local Govt has spent TT$3.9 million on sanitization and further TT$10 million allocated for food support. These figures could go up to TT$30 million for food support and TT$16 million on sanitisation.
Trinidad and Tobago Police Service:TT$5.3 million on PPE- could increase to TT$10 million
Ministry of Finance: has spent TT$12 million of the TT$490million allocated for salary relief grants.
