“I Don’t Know Nothing About That”: Minister Mum On Rumoured Retrenchment At WASA

With allegations that a retrenchment exercise at the Water and Sewerage Authority is brewing with 600 employees rumors to be axed, Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales is remaining tight-lipped about what’s to come.

Asked about the matter during Thursday’s Post Cabinet media briefing, Mr. Gonzales stated frankly: “In so far as it relates to the transformation and so-called firing, as Minister of Public Utilities, I don’t know nothing about that.”

His comments came hours after WASA employees staged a protest outside the Authority’s headquarters located at Farm Road, St. Joseph.

“I’m surprised that they are protesting. I thought they would have been outside cleaning the water treatment plants to ensure people get water,” he said, given the fact that as many as 16 facilities and 10 source intake stations were impacted by heavy rainfall over the last two days.

“I would advise them, do not follow the advice of people who are going to misled them… The people of T&T, especially people in North East Trinidad… they are depending on them to ensure that the water treatment plants are returned to full operation. And perhaps that should be their first port of call and their first priority at this point in time,” the Minister said.
