After setting their mattresses on fire to protest a transfer to another location, about 32 inmates at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca locked themselves inside their cells, leaving officers pleading with them to open the gates.

Commissioner of Prisons, Dennis Pulchan insists the situation is under control and confirmed the fires have been extinguished.
