Iwer George takes the Power Soca Monarch and College Boy Jessie is the new Groovy King

By Newsroom

There is a new king of Power Soca and he is Soca veteran Iwer George. His song Stage Gone Bad took the top prize at Soca monarch 2020. Iwer ignited the crowd after he brought Soca power house Kees on stage for a verse. Lyrikal brought his usual energy and placed second with his song Rukshun.

Olatunji Yearwood, who also captured the crowd’s love with his song Thankful took third prize.

College Boy Jessie dethroned Swappi to be crowned the new Groovy Soca Monarch, with his song Happy Song. Swappi came in second with his song, Jumbie Head. Ding Dong, who was a definite crowd pleaser, placed third with Outside.

Bajan singer, Lead Pipe, who opened the Groovy category, walked off the stage more than once because of microphone woes. He was able to put on a good performance despite the issues he faced. A decision was also taken by the show’s organizers to award full presentation points to all Groovy contestants because the video screens at the back drop never worked for the competitors in the category.

Congratulations to all artistes who competed in Soca Monarch 2020.
