Jada Breaks Her Silence

By Newsroom

Jada Pinkett-Smith has communicated publicly for the first time since Sunday’s Oscars event, where her husband slapped Chris Rock in the face over a joke he made at her expense.

Pinkett-Smith, 50, took to her Instagram page to share with her over 11 million followers: “This is a season for healing, and I’m here for it.”

Rock was slapped across the face by Smith after jokingly comparing his wife’s haircut to GI Jane- the popular 1997 film in which Demi Moore shaved her head.

Pinkett-Smith suffers with alopecia, a condition which triggers hair loss, and has spoken publicly about her battles with the auto-immune disorder in the past.

On Monday, Will Smith issued a public apology to Rock, saying the incident should never have happened.

“I was out of line and I was wrong. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” the Actor said in a statement.

It came after the Oscars film academy condemned Smith over the incident and announced a formal review.
