JAMAICA: Lisa Hanna To Retire From Active Politics

By Newsroom

Opposition Member of Parliament Lisa Hanna is bowing out of frontline politics, announcing her decision not to contest a seat in the next general election in Jamaica, constitutionally due in 2025.

On Tuesday, Hanna submitted a letter to Mark Golding, leader of the People’s National Party, to inform him of her decision.

“I have always been a champion of change and having the courage to do what’s right even when it’s not expedient or self-serving, as I believe courage has an obligation to pave new roads for the generation coming behind us. As such, I have recently decided to conclude my current journey in representational politics at the end of this term” Hanna said.

A former Miss World, Hanna was first elected to Parliament in 2007.

She consecutively contested and won the St Ann South Eastern since then, in 2011, 2016 and 2020.
