Jamaica Will Accept Its stranded Cruise Ship Workers, After All.

By Newsroom

The Jamaican government is working “very quickly” to allow 43 Jamaican ship workers to return to the island, according to Prime Minister Andrew Holness (in photo).

“We have heard their cries, we have heard their complaints,” Holness said, in response to a question posed by an opposition MP in a late-night session in the House of Representatives. The island’s Ministry of National Security is now in the advanced stages of a plan to take the 43 people “and about 900 other Jamaican ship workers,” according to report in the Jamaica Gleaner.

The group of  43  were denied landing when the Marella Discovery which docked south of Port Royal, Kingston two weeks ago, left Jamaican waters on the afternoon on April 3rd before the government dealt with their request.

The vessel left Jamaica and went to the Dominican Republic,  which accepted its nationals.  The Jamaicans remain on the ship which sailed to Portugal but was denied entry but was diverted to the United Kingdom.
