Responding to the Prime Minister putting the country on an election standby, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar says her party is poised and ready for a victory at the polls.

On whether she believes the Prime Minister’s statements allude to the calling of an early election date, the UNC leader says if that is the case, she suspects it will not come any time before the reading of the national budget in October.  

On Sunday, Dr. Rowley told citizens to “stand by and wait” for the election call, warning that “in the middle of the night, the dawn may not be too far away.”

He added, “Ladies and gentlemen, whenever they are ready, THA election, by-election, general election, we will beat them.”

At a UNC cottage meeting on Monday night, Persad-Bissessar said the party will begin screening of over 200 people who filed nomination papers seeking to represent the party in the upcoming general election.
