By Newsroom

Machel Montano has another accolade to add to his long ist of achievements- receiving the keys to the city of Port of Spain.

The handover was made by City Mayor Joel Martinez on Friday, as a means of recognizing the soca legend’s more than 40 years of contribution to Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival and culture.

The occasion happened during a special statutory meeting of the Port-of-Spain City Corporation Council held at Adam Smith Square today.

Expressing gratitude for the honor, Montano reflected: “The key to success is consistency, integrity, putting your best foot forward, being fully involved, but most importantly, doing it in the service of mankind. This is why I do music.”

“This is why I’m here today celebrating 40 years of serving my family, my friends and most importantly, my fans. This key is another opportunity for me to go another 20 years and inspire others,” he continued.

The ceremony coincided with Tribe’s three day SunsetWKN experience, which began on Friday with a free Sunset Theatre.

On Saturday, Tribe’s family of bands – Pure, Bliss, Tribe, Rogue, Harts, Lost Tribe – will unveil their highly anticipated costumes for Carnival 2023.

On Sunday, there will be a Las Jam fete at the Hasley Crawford Stadium.
