A 44-year-old taxi driver has been fined $500 for two counts of breaching a protection order.

Devon Celestine  pleaded guilty to the two offences when he appeared before Port-of-Spain Magistrate Adia Mohammed via video conferencing on Monday.

The charges of two counts of breach of a protection order came following a report made by a female to officers of the Gender Based Violence Unit (GBVU) on May 10th.

The woman reported that Celestine failed to adhere to a protection order which resulted in the offences occurring during an argument at her home.

The protection order has an effect of three years which prevents Celestine from engaging in, or threatening to engage in any act of domestic violence against her; physically abusing or act to abuse her; and abusing her by use of threatening, obscene and insulting
statements.

Celestine was arrested at his Belmont home and charged by WPC Cooper of Port-of-Spain GBVU for two counts of Breach of a Protection Order on Saturday.

Failure to pay the fines will result in Celestine being sentenced to 14 days hard labour for each offence.
