Manhunt For Escaped Prisoner

Prisoner Nigel Mungroo, who has been incarcerated at the Remand Prison, Golden Grove since 2015 on a murder charge, managed to escape from the facility on Saturday.

A statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service advised that around 5.00pm, Mungroo complained of feeling unwell. Whilst being escorted to the Infirmary, he made a dash for the perimeter fence in the vicinity of Waterloo Road, Arouca.

The Prison Service says an alarm was immediately raised and officers attached to the Emergency Response Unit responded.

The Arouca Police was also contacted and a search is currently underway for Mungroo, in all the surrounding areas.

Mungroo is 5′ 4″ in height, brown in complexion and slim built. He has a scar on his nose, ‘Nigel’ tattooed on his neck, and several small scars about his arms. His last known address is 24A Crawford Branch Trace, Penal.

Anyone who may have any information about Nigel Mungroo is asked to contact the nearest police station, call 999, or contact the Prison Service at 642 4202 or 800-PRSN (800-7776).

Persons are asked not to approach Mungroo, as he is considered armed and dangerous. 

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service is working assiduously in conjunction with members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to apprehend Nigel Mungroo in in the shortest time

possible.
