Minister: “No Proof Of Sabotage In Islandwide Power Outage”

By Newsroom

While an investigation into what exactly was the cause of Wednesday’s islandwide  shortage is yet to be completed, Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales has put to rest any concerns that the incident was deliberate.

Minister Gonzales says based on a preliminary report handed to him by T&TEC and forwarded to the Prime Minister,  “it is quite evident that there was no sabotage or anything from a human perspective that resulted in yesterday’s disruption”.

Meanwhile, Cabinet has agreed to appoint an independent committee to conduct an in-depth  investigation into Wednesday’s island wide power shortage.

This is according to Energy Minister Stuart Young, who said the decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the National Security Council this morning.

“This event has clearly demonstrated that there are vulnerabilities. Vulnerabilities in the power generation and distribution, there’s a breakdown and disruption in the communication system,” the Energy Minister said.
