Minister Young: Government Has Not Authorized Any Price Increase For Cooking Gas

By Newsroom

Attempting to clear the air after the National Petroleum Marketing Company, NP’s, announced that dealers were authorized to raise the price of cooking gas, Energy Minister Stuart Young says he gave no such order.

NP’s position came even as Finance Minister Colm Imbert said in his budget presentation on Monday that the subsidy will remain for kerosene and liquid petroleum gas.

NP cannot authorize such a price increase, unless it is sanctioned by the Minister of Energy.

On Thursday, Energy Minister Stuart Young clarified that he gave no ‘okay’ to raise the price of cooking gas, which currently retails at $21 for a 20 pound cylinder.
