The Ministry of National Security issued the following statement:

“The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is aware that there are approximately seventy (70) nationals of Trinidad and Tobago who are currently on a cruise ship, the Costa Favolosa, moored in Guadeloupe waters.

The Minister of National Security, the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. and other members of Government have been communicating with some of these nationals, as well as their family members and friends.

The Government is in communication with the French authorities to get accurate information on the status of our nationals on the ship, and how these authorities intend to treat with this situation. The latest information that we have is that arrangements are being made to repatriate our nationals.

Government Agencies, in particular the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of National Security, are prepared to receive the Trinidad and Tobago nationals, and have been since yesterday, March 16, 2020, when they were expected to have arrived back in the country.

The public is assured that Government is working assiduously to assist these nationals to return safely to Trinidad and Tobago.”
