MOH: COVID-19 Case Is A Minor Who Is The Daughter Of A Republic Bank Employee.

By Newsroom

The latest COVID-19 case is a minor who is the daughter of a Republic Bank employee. This was revealed by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, who added that video footage from the bank shows she interacted with 11 people at the West Mall branch- they have all since been sent home and will be tested today.

Minister Deyalsingh clarified that the two local cases recorded over the last few days are not related, adding that while the recent developments are concerning, it should not be a cause for panic.

The eight primary contacts for COVID-19 case 139- which is one of the local cases- have all tested negative for COVID-19. They will remain under strict home quarantine for the next two weeks, monitored by health officials and police.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, has dismissed speculation that the cases came from illegal migrants, given the borders are closed. He said epidemiological investigation continues into both cases.

To date, 4712 people have been tested for the coronavirus in T&T. There are five COVID-19 patients currently in hospital and 153 people across the state’s quarantine facilities.
