MoH to Relaunch Vaccination Drive

By Shirvan Williams

The Ministry of Health has announced it will relaunch a vaccination drive for the public. It is expected to begin later this week on Friday 6th January 2023. The relaunch will occur on Fridays and Saturdays until Saturday 4th February 2023 at 12 locations throughout the country.

The move comes as Minister of Health, Terrrence Deyalsingh said protecting the public remains a priority and that the relaunch is to ensure the public has access to vaccines to build their defence against COVID-19 and the Influenza virus.

The MoH also advised that with the upcoming Carnival season, there will be an influx of visitors and so the public is encouraged to get vaccinated.

According to a statement from the MoH: “The vaccination drive will seek to reach and encourage persons who have never received a primary dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, to get vaccinated and persons who have received the COVID-19 vaccine to get a booster dose. The Influenza season began in October, therefore, persons are encouraged to get their influenza vaccine at the nearest mass vaccination site or at any health centre across the country.”

Immunocompromised persons and the elderly are also encouraged to get vaccinated and boosted due to pre-existing comorbidities and waning immunity.
