More Protests: St. Ann’s Hospital Staff Demand Outstanding Wages

By Newsroom

Wednesday’s bleak weather was not enough to deter staff of the St. Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital from  marching to the Prime Minister’s Residence and Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s, demanding payment of outstanding wages.

The demonstration came just hours after North Central Regional Health Authority CEO, Davlin Thomas, announced that Finance Minister Colm Imbert had given the approval for workers in the RHA to be paid 100% of the $37 million in arrears owed to them. Their payment will be made available in the week of June 30th and July 4th and comes days after those workers staged similar protests demanding such action.

At Wednesday morning’s demonstration, the group’s trade union representative argued that workers were being unfairly targeted.

“We are not asking for any handouts. All we are asking for is what we have already worked for, what we deserve and also for the employer to stop using fraudulent measures to deprive us of out earnings. That is hurting the employees,” said Public Services Association (PSA) Representative, Preston George.

The group is prepared to continue making their voices heard until appropriate action is taken.
