More unrest in Guyana as 19-year-old is shot dead by police during protests

A 19-year-old man has been shot and killed during protests at Cotton Tree Village in the West Coast of Berbice in Guyana. The incident happened last night after a day of violent protests in the area and the victim has been identified as Devon Hansraj. Another teen was said to be critically injured but could not be transported to the hospital because of blocked roads. 

According to reports he was shot by police after they were attacked by residents with glass bottles. An emergency hearing on the application seeking to have the tabulation of votes in Region Four done according to the law, before being officially declared, will be heard by Guyana’s Chief Justice Roxane George-Wiltshire later this morning.
