By Newsroom

Jamaica’s Health Ministry has confirmed that 26 cases of the Mu Covid-19 variant has been detected in the country.

The announcement was made by Health Minister Dr. Chris Tufton on Thursday night, who said the 26 positive cases were returned out of 90 samples tested.

The development comes Jamaica is also currently battling a wave of infections, driven by the highly contagious Delta variant.

This is the second Caribbean country to  detect the Mu variant.

Earlier this week, St. Vincent and the Grenadines became the first, with five samples testing positive for the new variant, which was first seen in Columbia.
