NCRHA Is Not Yet Ready to Ramp Up Testing

By Newsroom

Amidst calls to speed up testing for Coronavirus in Trinidad and Tobago, Heath Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said government is awaiting more equipment to increase testing at the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA). ‘We are sourcing the actual kits and getting an extraction kit to source the DNA from samples, “ Deyalsingh said on Friday morning. But there is no indication when the extraction kit will be available. But, like the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), he has ruled out a partnership with private labs to be able to ramp up the capacity for COVID-19 testing. “We will have a Drive through after NCRHA is up and running. No private lab has been certified by Carpha to do testing. Once they do that we will accept the results,” Deyalsingh said. “We got two positive cases from private labs in Trinidad that were sent to  Carpha and they are negative,” the CMO chimed in, during the press conference.
