New Covid-19 Relief Measures To Be Announced Today

By Newsroom

New Covid-19 relief measures will be outlined today when Finance Minister Colm Imbert hosts a press briefing at 11:15am.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley announced that Salary Relief Grants would be extended for the month of June, with a possible grant specifically for those working in the construction sector.

Speaking at a Covid-19 at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s on Saturday, Dr. Rowley noted a slow but steady decline in Covid-19 infections, but insisted there was still more progress to be made before businesses could reopen so people can go back to earning an income of their own.

“We are going in the right direction, but not fast enough. One of the worst things that could happen is ending the lockdowns too early. We are making progress but more is needed before we take coming out actions,” the Prime Minister said.

For the month of May, the Ministry of Finance received a total of 18,747 Salary Relief Grant applications, with the bulk of the applications being from workers in the food, restaurant and retail sectors.
