Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley turned the sod yesterday to construct the new Sangre Grande Hospital.
Speaking at the opening,Dr Rowley said the project was the first of many to develop the area, which he said is one of the poorest parts of Trinidad.
“What we would have built here when we are finished with this hospital, is a national footprint of health care delivery facilities that will ensure for decades ahead the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago will have access to primary and secondary services,” the PM said.
The 106 bed hospital, which is funded by a loan from Austria, is scheduled to be completed by February, 2022.
