Nine Months In Jail For Cellphone Thief

A 20 year old man who was tied up by a group of women after he attempted to take off with their phones while they were participating in a fitness exercise will spend the next nine months in jail for his crime.

The sentence was handed down when Kyle Baptisite, of  Sea Lots and Cham Road, Mayaro appeared before a Mayaro Magistrate today charged with faced four counts of larceny.

Baptiste reportedly approached the training group around 8:40am, grabbed the phones and ran off.

The group members gave chase and were able to subdue him a short distance away, roping his hands and knees together until police arrived.

Footage of the incident was widely shared on social media, with several posters commending the vigilante justice. 

Officers of the Mayaro Police Station responded to the situation and took Baptiste into custody.

In the past, Baptiste previously appeared in court for robbery with violence and was also ordered to stand outside of the Besson Street Police Station with a sign stating, ‘I will not rob’.
