Nineteen-year-old shot dead by police

A man was killed by police in the Sangre Grande area yesterday. According to the TTPS officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force were conducting investigations in the Eastern Division, between 4:30pm and 8:30pm, on Saturday 25th April, 2020, when they attempted to apprehend 19-year-old Malcolm Aberdeen of San Juan.

“As the officers approached, the suspect ran off into a bushy area. The officers gave chase and conducted a thorough search of the district, during which the suspect emerged from hiding and attempted to flee by running into a drain.

The officers pursued the suspect, who turned and pointed a metal object resembling a firearm in their direction and shot at them. In keeping with the Use of Force policy, officers returned fire hitting the suspect.”

He was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital for treatment where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A firearm and quantity of ammunition were recovered from the scene.
