No Counterfeit $100 Polymer Bills

By Newsroom

The Bankers Association did not issue a statement that the $100 polymer note is being counterfeited, according to Finance Minister  Colm Imbert.

Responding to a question in the House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon, Imbert, who is also  Acting Prime Minister said he spoke with the President of the Bankers Association who denied that any such statement was made as it was reported in a daily newspaper.

“A person who is in charge of security at one of the banks reported that he saw a video on social media, which all of us has seen.

“ We don’t know if the video was real, fabricated, or even concocted,” Minister Imbert told the Lower House.

The Bankers Association never said it was in circulation since last December,” he insisted.

“The issue of counterfeiting is a regular occurrence all over the world”, he continued, adding “the good thing is the new bills have far more security measure than the old bills and are far more difficult to counterfeit.

“The newspaper quoted no source in the story,” the Finance Minister said.
