The Olympic Games carded for June 24th in Tokyo, Japan this year will most likely be postponed. According to the International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound the Summer Olympics in Tokyo will be postponed and probably won’t happen until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: “On the basis of the information the IOC has, postponement has been decided. The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.”

Both Canada and Australia had already announced that they would not send athletes to Tokyo if the Games went ahead as scheduled. The United States’ governing bodies for swimming and track had also been pushing for a postponement. If confirmed by the entire IOC this will be the first time an Olympic Games has been postponed.
