One Step Away From Historic Olympic Qualification

By Newsroom

Following her performances at the Paris Grand Slam and Dusseldorf Grand Slam in Germany earlier this month, Gabriella Wood has  shot upwards on both the Olympic and World Rankings. She now stands at:

  • Olympic Rank  =  67 (198 Points)
  • World Ranking  =  76 (201 Points)

In September 2019, Gabriella’s World Rank was at 133  while the Olympic Rank was 130

Gabriella currently holds the top position in her category under the Pan American Continental Quota system for Olympic Qualification.

Should she maintain this position, she will qualify to compete at the Tokyo Games (July/August 2020). However, to do this she must continue to compete and win points to keep ahead of other competitors.

The qualification period ends on May 30th 2020.

Gabriella Wood became the youngest black belt judoka in Trinidad and Tobago at age 18. She is a four-time national women’s judo champion in the +78kg category and is on the road to becoming the first woman to represent Trinidad and Tobago in Judo at the Olympics (Tokyo 2020).
