Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar has said that it is time for citizens to be given the means to protect themselves because the State cannot protect them.

In a statement, she said:
“To our citizens, I urge you all to hold strong, and keep the faith: soon a new UNC government will give you the legal firearms and legislation to level the field and fight back against vicious criminals.

Since Friday to the present time, 15 murders have been recorded in our country. It has been a most bloody and brutal weekend. We in the UNC have supported the Keith Rowley Government in over 37 pieces of criminal legislation, the latest being the Bail (Amendment) Bill 2024.”
