Opposition MP On Missing Covid-19 Vaccines: “What Security Measures Are Being Put In Place?”

By Newsroom

Opposition MP Dr. Rishad Seecheran is calling on Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, to say what specific security measures are being enforced to prevent the loss of more medical supplies, after Covid-19 Vaccines have gone missing from Couva District Health Facility.

The Caroni East MP also questions why no mention was made of the quantity nor the types of vaccines which have been misplaced.

“This latest loss follows similar incidents with respect to taxpayer-funded medical supplies at public health institutions. In July 2021, $2.5 million worth of drugs were stolen from a storeroom of the pharmacy of St. James Medical Complex. Some of the drugs were eventually recovered, but they had to be discarded after inspection,” he said.

Investigations are continuing into a quantity of vials of Covid-19 vaccines which were reported missing from the Couva District Health Facility.

The South West Regional Health Authority confirmed over the weekend, that the vials had been moved from storage on Friday.

The SWRHA reminds that as a matter of public safety, Covid-19 vaccines should be accessed only through the Ministry of Health’s authorized vaccine sites. Anyone with information on the missing vials are urged to contact the authorities immediately.
