OWTU Calls For Meeting With Government: “Tell Truth About Refinery Deal”

By Newsroom

“Misinformation by agents of the government, whether by intention or omission.”

That is how President General of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union, Ancel Roget, describes  government’s announcement that it had rejected the union’s proposal for purchase of the Petrotrin refinery.

In a press conference called this afternoon, Mr. Roget said he is of the view that the main reason for the decision is the lean on the asset which he says is due to excessive borrowing under government’s watch.

Roget maintained that Patriotic Energies and Technologies Company Limited, wholly owned by the OWTU, had the commitment of investment banking company Credit Suisse to pay the up-front offer of US$500 million for the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.

In recounting the funds the union has spent in its bid for the refinery, the OWTU is now calling for the intervention of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley on the issue, and says it remains hopeful that there may be some sort of resolve.
